the idea of the project
The main idea of the project is to nurture young scientific talent. Initiated by Radek Holešinský, the director of Porta Coeli Monastery Brewery and its main sponsor, a collaboration between the brewery and the LASAR team marks the first step towards establishing a foundation dedicated to supporting young scientists. This foundation will focus on promoting technical innovations from high school students in the South Moravian Region, offering opportunities such as scientific competitions and mini-grants. By fostering connections with research institutions and companies across the Czech Republic, the foundation will help students launch their careers. In line with this mission, this website was developed with contributions from aspiring graphic designers and a programmer.
About Cooperation
VORKLOSTER & LASAR
The LASAR project, led by a team of young scientists, offers an innovative solution to challenges faced by satellites in Earth's orbit. Their primary objective is to develop and launch a satellite capable of repairing other satellites. This cutting-edge technology, known as LASARM, employs a laser system to reset and repair CubeSats experiencing software malfunctions. By precisely targeting the affected satellite's solar panel, the laser induces a power surge that triggers a system reboot, restoring functionality and enabling software updates.
A unique aspect of this project is its collaboration with the Porta Coeli Monastery Brewery. As part of this partnership, a small container of non-alcoholic monastery beer will be placed inside the satellite—a symbolic gesture linking the traditional craft of brewing with modern science and technology. This collaboration is proof that an innovative and modern approach can go hand in hand with tradition.
The Monastery Brewery aims to actively support the development of new technologies, believing that investing in young talent is key to future success. As a result, beer from the Porta Coeli Monastery Brewery, sold under the VORKLOSTER brand, will make history as the first non-alcoholic beverage carried into space aboard a Czech satellite.
The non-alcoholic beer CERO from the Monastery Brewery Porta Coeli will soon make history as the first of its kind to journey into space. It will embark on this extraordinary voyage in a small ampoule, which will be part of a new satellite created by the LASAR team. The ampoule is securely stored beneath an engraved plate, protecting its valuable contents from the extreme conditions of outer space.

symbolic year
The year 2024 is a symbolic year for Porta Coeli Monastery. In the autumn it will be exactly 790 years since the signing of its own founding charter by Margrave Přemysl, the youngest son of King Přemysl Otakar I. In the summer of this year, the Porta Coeli Monastery Brewery will celebrate five years since its opening and the revival of the tradition of brewing beer in the Pre-Castle. In a year punctuated by two symbolic dates, the monastery's beer will head into space for the first time ever.

What they wrote About us
Space technologies as an engine of the economy. The government is betting on the space industry
The South Moravian Region is undoubtedly the center of the Czech space industry. Numerous companies operate here, looking up not only in the world of numbers but also literally, as their technologies are aimed at orbit. It is therefore no surprise that the government chose this region, specifically the Brno Observatory, to present the project titled "Czech Path to Space."
Czech high school students succeeded in the USA with a project on remotely restarting satellites. They won two out of three categories
A Czech student team succeeded at the prestigious international Conrad Challenge competition at NASA's center. In Houston, USA, they impressed with their project on remotely restarting satellites. This was in competition with more than two thousand student teams.
Plzeňský Prazdroj has teamed up with all domestic monastery breweries. Together they cooked Pilgrimage specials
The popular programme of beer specials, Pilsner Urquell's Brewers' Choice, has joined forces with five small breweries operating in Czech monasteries. Together, during the spring months this year, they will introduce beer lovers to historical beer ingredients. All functioning Czech monastery breweries—Strahov Monastery Brewery, Břevnov Monastery Brewery, Ossegg Brewery, Želiv Monastery Brewery, and Porta Coeli Brewery—have accepted the invitation to cooperate.
Moravia has a monastery brewery again. Beer production returned to Předklášteří after 77 years
After 77 years, the first official batch of beer was brewed today in the Porta Coeli Monastery Brewery in Předklášteří. The Cistercian convent has become the only monastery brewery in Moravia. The brewery, branded as Vorkloster, will specialize mainly in lagers. The joint-stock company that operates the brewery aims to revitalize the neglected economic part of the complex. The reconstruction of the premises and investments in technology cost approximately 17 million crowns.
